Mrs. Kari 'Mama' Cobb

Welcome to the NHS Advanced Applied S.T.E.M. Academy Tower! Mrs. Kari 'Mama' Cobb, our Academy's Director and Tower Coordinator was born and raised right here in Eastern NC, near the beach and Camp Lejeune, the largest amphibious base in US. Mrs. Cobb has over 15 years of teaching face-to-face and online with 8 years of experience learning online as well. Mrs. Cobb recently attained her Specialist Degree of Education with an emphasis in Educational Technology/Online Educator and a hybrid focus in Technology in Schools (M Ed) as well as Learning Systems Design & Development (LSDD) from the University of Missouri. Her colorful background also includes an MBA from UOP, BSBA (Management and Organizational Development) from University of Mount Olive and a certificate in Business and Marketing Education from NC State University. Mrs. Cobb also holds many professional certifications to include: Adobe Certified Associate (ACA), Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS), Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE), and Internet and Computer Core Certified (IC3). Mrs. Cobb's contributes organization, leadership, and collaborative teamwork to Northside High School through her extensive leadership experience to include Advanced Applied STEM Academy Director/Tower Coordinator, AVID Co-Coordinator (National AVID HS Demo Site), Co-Dept Chair-CTE (with 8+ Teachers), Mentor Teacher (with 4+ Teachers), Safe and Civil School Committee, Freshman Class Advisor, Online Educator/Facilitator, Freshman Transition Director, AVID Site Team, and School Leadership Team. Mrs. and Mr. Cobb (below) are happily married and the proud parents of 4 boys and 3 girls, ages 23, 22, 20, 17, 13, 11, and 2 years old. Mrs. Cobb loves yard work, painting, and also looks forward to a GREAT opportunity collaborating with you! |

Ms. Kathy LaPointe
Mr. Jared Brown
Mr. Jared Brown was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and graduated from North Pocono High School in Moscow, PA in 2008. While in high school Mr. Brown played three varsity sports; soccer, volleyball, and tennis. After high school Mr. Brown graduated from Penn State University in 2012 receiving his Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in teaching. While at Penn State Mr. Brown was involved in various activities including dancing in the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON), a 46 straight hour event to raise money for pediatric cancer.
Mr. Brown completed his student teaching at Penns Valley Area High School in Spring Mills Pennsylvania and was a substitute teacher with the North Pocono School District in Moscow, PA for 2 years. In between his time as a substitute teacher and joining Northside High School, Mr. Brown worked as a fitness specialist in Huntington Beach California and Raleigh North Carolina.
Currently at Northside High School, Mr. Brown teaches Earth/Environmental Science and Physics. He is also the varsity boy’s tennis coach and an assistant for the girls’ basketball team.

Mrs. Brittany Carden
Mrs. Brittany Carden graduated from Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) located in Joplin Missouri receiving her Bachelors of Science in History with an emphasis in Secondary Education.
Prior to that, Mrs. Carden attended Labette Community College (dual credit through my high school, Labette County High School).
While in college at Missouri Southern State University, she student taught at Webb City High School in Webb City Missouri (2013) and was a substitute teacher at Joplin High School (2012-2013).
In the three years that Mrs. Carden has been at Northside High School, she has taught,Civics/Economics, United States History (America I & II), United States History Honors, World History, World History Honors, as well as recently taking on a course in Sociology.
Currently at Northside her extra curricular activities include being charge of and organizing the Student Council, Homecoming, Prom, and the 'Outdoors club'.

Mrs. Nicole Martin
Mrs. Nicole Martin joins Northside High School with a varied expertise in biology and leadership. Prior to joining the Northside staff, Mrs. Martin graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, MA in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Biology (magna cum laude), with a minor in International Affairs. In college, Mrs. Martin was very involved as an RA, Supervisory for 3 years working with freshmen while also peer tutoring Microbiology. She also participated in undergrad Entomology research, presenting at the national conference. Her extensive background includes industry experience in a pharmaceutical research lab, hospital operating and recovery room, and studying abroad in South Africa, where Mrs. Martin co-founded a literacy non-profit.
Mrs. Martin graduated in 2013 from University of North Carolina in Wilmington, NC with a Master of Arts in Teaching - Secondary Science, graduating summa cum laude. During her career at UNCW, Mrs. Martin presented at the North Carolina Science Teacher Association Conference 2012 and also received the NCSTA Outstanding Student Teacher in Science 2012.
Mrs. Martin has become AP Environmental Science College Board certified, multiple times Jones Onslow Bright Ideas Grant recipient, and a member of professional organizations to include NSTA and NCSTA.
Due to Mrs. Martin’s college experiences, she contributes organization, leadership, and collaborative teamwork to the Northside community as an Advisor for the Science Club, Science National Honor Society, Co-Advisor of Key Club, Biology PLC Representative, and Teacher Cadet Educator. She is also a valuable member of Onslow County's Teachers Leading in the Profession, where she attends quarterly meetings with district science teachers and brings back information to Northside's campus.
In the three years that Mrs. Martin has been at Northside High School, she has taught Earth & Environmental, Physical Science, Biology, Honors Biology, AP Environmental. Her new venture includes teaching future educators in Northside's new Teacher Cadet program.

Ms. Kadie Ondrus
Ms. Kadie Ondrus joins Northside High School with an expertise in Biology and Teaching. Prior to joining the Northside staff Ms. Ondrus graduated from Clay High School in Oregon, OH in 2005. In high school, Ms. Ondrus was very involved and played three sports while maintain a 3.8 GPA and completing 24 credit hours at a community college. Ms. Ondrus graduated in 2009 from Gannon University in Erie, PA with a degree in Biology and Secondary Education. During her career at Gannon, Ms. Ondrus participated in several academic sororities, campus charity events, and was a member of the Varsity Softball Team.
Ms. Ondrus continued her education at John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH pursuing a Master’s Degree in Biology and graduated in 2011. At John Carroll, Ms. Ondrus was a Teacher’s Assistant in the Biology Dept. and taught freshman level Biology courses for 2 years. This teaching experience further prepared Ms. Ondrus for her future teaching career. Due to Ms. Ondrus’ college experiences, she contributes organization, leadership, and collaborative teamwork to the Northside community.
At Northside, Ms. Ondrus has blossomed into a young professional educator becoming the Science Department Chair and a member for the School Leadership Team. Ms. Ondrus has also become AP Biology certified, three time Jones Onslow Grant recipient, AVID science certified, a member of the AVID site team and teaching science using robots certified. While teaching Biology at Northside, Ms. Ondrus has lead Northside to receiving the highest overall proficiency in Biology and exceeding expected growth in Biology for 3 years in a row.

Mrs. Hannah Taggart
Mrs. Hannah Taggart graduated from Forest Park High School, in Woodbridge VA, in 2007. During her high school career, Mrs. Taggart participated in Varsity cheerleading and Varsity swimming while maintaining a rigorous schedule including several AP courses. Mrs. Taggart was in her high school’s IT academy where she completed technology courses including Computer Math and AP Computer Science.
After graduating from high school, Mrs. Taggart attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg VA where she earned her degree in Engineering Science and Mechanics with a Biomechanics concentration. During her time as a Hokie, Mrs. Taggart worked on several engineering design projects to include her senior capstone project on an energy efficient iWalkFree crutch device. Mrs. Taggart was also a member of the all-female engineering sorority ΑΩΕ. Mrs. Taggart continued her education at UNC Wilmington where she earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching Secondary Mathematics. During her graduate school she was a student teacher at Topsail High School and taught Advanced Functions and Modeling.
Mrs. Taggart came to Northside High School in 2014 as a math and engineering teacher. Mrs. Taggart works to incorporate her background in engineering and technology into the mathematics classroom for her students to recognize and understand the real world applications of what they are learning. Since starting at NHS she has taken on other roles such as the JV Cheerleading Coach, a member of the Teachers Leading the Profession (TLP) group, and a member of the STEM Academy team.
